Bobby Brown State Outdoor Recreation Area facts for kids
Bobby Brown State Outdoor Recreation Area is a fun place to visit in Georgia! This state park covers about 665 acres, which is like 500 football fields. It's located near the towns of Chennault and Middleton. The park is named after Robert T. Brown. He was a brave lieutenant in the United States Navy. He died during World War II on a submarine called the USS Scorpion.
The park sits on land that was once a busy town named Petersburg. This town was very important in the 1790s. It was located right where the Broad River and the Savannah River meet. Today, the park is next to two big man-made lakes. These are Lake Strom Thurmond and Richard B. Russell Lake. When the water in these lakes is low, you can sometimes see parts of the old town of Petersburg! Being near so much water makes the park a great spot for fishing and other water activities.
