Bobby Starr (born January 19, 1937 – died March 17, 2022) was a talented American singer. He was known for his amazing voice in R&B and soul music. Bobby Starr was also the lead singer for a famous R&B group called The Intruders.

Bobby Starr's Musical Journey

Bobby Starr grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. When he was a teenager, he started touring with different singing groups. Later, he formed his own group called Bobby Starr and the Versatilles. They even released a song called "Fanny, Fanny."

While touring, Bobby met another music group from Philadelphia, The Intruders. Their lead singer, Samuel Brown, decided to leave the group to spend more time with his family. Because Bobby Starr's voice sounded very similar to Samuel's, The Intruders asked Bobby to join them in 1970.

Joining The Intruders

When Bobby Starr joined The Intruders, the group started having many hit songs again. He sang lead on popular tracks from their "When We Get Married" album. This included a cover of Dusty Springfield's "A Brand New Me." His first song released with The Intruders on the "Gamble" record label was "I'm Girl Scoutin" in 1971.

Bobby Starr also made his first appearance on national television with The Intruders. On November 13, 1971, they performed their songs "Cowboys to Girls" and "I Bet He Don't Love You" on the TV show Soul Train.

The Intruders group eventually stopped performing in the 1980s. However, they later got back together with Glenn Montgomery leading the way. Bobby Starr returned as the lead singer, and the group continued to tour. He was featured with The Intruders in the "Love Train: Sound of Philadelphia" concert series.

Beyond Music

Bobby Starr also cared about helping others. He supported education and public television. He even appeared on a P.B.S. TV special called "Superstars of 70's Soul Live." Bobby Starr passed away on March 17, 2022.
