Bobby Walker's Wrestling Journey
Starting Out in Wrestling (1989–1992)
Bobby Walker began his professional wrestling career in 1989. In 1990, he wrestled as Hurricane Walker. He tried to win the NWA Florida Tag Team Championship with his tag team partner, Brian Knobbs. They competed for the vacant title but did not win it. Later, he teamed with Joe Gomez for another try at the championship, but they were also unsuccessful.
However, in late 1990, Bobby Walker and Tim Parker won the championship belts! They defeated Sgt. Rock and Mark Starr. Soon after, they lost the title to Sgt. Rock and Ron Slinker.
Walker also made short appearances in other wrestling companies. These included Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling in 1991 and the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1991. In 1991, a wrestling magazine called Pro Wrestling Illustrated ranked him among the top 500 wrestlers. He later trained at the WCW Power Plant. This was a special training center run by WCW.
Time in World Championship Wrestling (1992–2000)
Bobby Walker joined World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1992. He first used the name Robbie Walker. He was supposed to team up with Ron Simmons at a big event. But he got hurt and could not wrestle.
After almost a year of recovering, he came back to WCW. He wrestled under the name Bobby Walker. His first televised match was in January 1994. He teamed with Jason Johnson but lost to Harlem Heat.
Starting in 1995, he was known as "'Hardwork' Bobby Walker." He had a manager named Teddy Long. Bobby Walker often wrestled against bigger stars. He would usually lose these matches to make the other wrestlers look strong. But he did win some matches against newer wrestlers. He wrestled in his only pay-per-view event at World War 3 in 1995. This was a huge battle royal with sixty wrestlers. Randy Savage won that match.
In 1996, Bobby Walker was chosen to team with The Barbarian. This was for a special event called Lethal Lottery. But Lex Luger injured him during a match. So, Diamond Dallas Page took his place. Bobby Walker later defeated Billy Kidman in a special match at Bash at the Beach. In August, he teamed with Mr. J.L. but they lost to The Nasty Boys. Bobby Walker stayed with WCW until February 2000, when he left the company.
Bobby Walker's Life Outside the Ring
Bobby Walker is the nephew of another famous professional wrestler, Thunderbolt Patterson.
In 2000, Bobby Walker and some other wrestlers had a disagreement with WCW. They felt they were not treated fairly. Walker said that he was paid less than some other wrestlers. He also felt that he was told to make other wrestlers look better than him. The wrestlers believed they were not given the same chances as others.
A judge ruled in 2001 that the lawsuit could continue. Since World Wrestling Federation (WWF) bought WCW, the lawsuit continued against WWF. Eventually, the issue was settled outside of court. This means they reached an agreement without needing a trial.
