Early Life and Education

Bola Muinat Shagaya was born in Ilorin, her hometown, on October 10, 1959. Her mother's name was Saadat Bakini. Bola Shagaya went to Queens School in Ilorin for her secondary education. She then studied at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. She also attended Armstrong College in California, USA. There, she focused on economics and accounting.

Starting Her Business Journey

Bola Shagaya began her career working in the audit department of the Central Bank of Nigeria. This was before she started her own businesses in 1983. Her first business venture involved importing and selling photographic materials. She was the one who brought the Konica brand of camera supplies to Nigeria and other West African countries.

Expanding Her Business Empire

Today, Hajia Bola Muinat Shagaya is also the managing director of Practoil Limited. This company is one of the biggest importers and sellers of base oil in Nigeria. Base oil is used to make lubricants for machines. Her business also includes many investments in real estate. She owns properties in major cities across Nigeria. Her companies employ more than three hundred people.

She has also been a board member of Unity Bank plc for over eight years. This bank was formerly known as Intercity Bank. Bola Shagaya is also part of the Nepad Business Group – Nigeria. She supports the Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FADAN) as a patron.

Awards and Recognition

In July 2010, Bola Shagaya was honored with a special award. She became a Member of the Order of the Niger (MON). This award was given to her by the former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

Bola Shagaya is married to Alhaji Shagaya. He is a successful transport businessman from Kwara State. They have six children together. Their children are Sherif, Hakeem, Deeja, Naieema, Amaya Roberts, and Adeena Roberts Shagaya. Her children live in different parts of the world. They help to grow the family's real estate businesses in Europe and the United States. They are also involved in smaller businesses and industries in Asia and Australia.
