Bolo bat facts for kids

The Bolo bat was a fun toy that kids played with, especially from the 1930s to the 1960s. It was made up of a round wooden paddle, similar to a ping-pong paddle, with a handle. A long elastic band, about three feet (one meter) long, was attached to the center of the paddle. At the end of this elastic band was a small rubber ball, about one inch (2.5 cm) wide.

How to Play with a Bolo Bat

Playing with a Bolo bat was simple and exciting! A child would hit the rubber ball with the wooden paddle. The ball would fly away until the elastic band stretched as far as it could go. Then, the elastic would snap the ball right back towards the paddle. The goal was to hit the ball again and again as it returned.
