This means it is an important historical place that needs to be protected. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on April 2, 1999.
What Makes Bombala Station Special?
Bombala railway station is important because it shows us how country train stations worked a long time ago. It is one of the best-kept stations from around 1920. This was a time when train lines were still growing in New South Wales.
Buildings and Structures
The station has several old buildings and structures. They were all built in 1921. These include:
- A main station building made from special concrete.
- A signal box, also made of concrete, with a sloped roof. This box was used to control the train signals.
- A small building made of corrugated iron. It was used for lamps and as a toilet.
- A goods shed, where items carried by train were stored.
The station also has its original timber platform. There is also a footbridge. This bridge is quite unusual for a station in this area. It is a great example of a unique way to get across the tracks.
Why is it Heritage-Listed?
The Bombala railway station is listed as a heritage site for many reasons. It is seen as a rare and important part of New South Wales history. It helps us understand how trains and stations were built and used in the past. The station building itself is one of the best examples of concrete buildings from that time.
