Bon Iver facts for kids
Bon Iver is an American indie folk band. This means they play a type of music that mixes folk sounds with independent rock. The band began in 2007 in Eau Claire, started by a musician named Justin Vernon. There are seven members in the band. One of their most famous songs is "Skinny Love".
Bon Iver's Music Journey
In 2007, Bon Iver released their first album. It was called For Emma, Forever Ago. They released it themselves at first. In 2008, a record company named Jagjaguwar released it in the United States. This album sold over 30,000 copies in its first three months. Later, another company called 4AD released the album in the UK and Europe. The first song released from this album was "Skinny Love". In 2008, Bon Iver also helped design a T-shirt for a project called Yellow Bird Project.
In 2009, Bon Iver released their first EP, which is like a mini-album, called Blood Bank. Then, in 2011, they released their second full album. It was titled Bon Iver, Bon Iver. A music website called Pitchfork gave this album a very high score. They even said it was the best album of 2011!
Awards and Recognition
The album Bon Iver, Bon Iver won a big award in 2012. It won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. The Grammys are very important music awards. In the same year, Bon Iver also won the Grammy for Best New Artist. This award goes to a new artist or band that has become very popular. One of their songs, "Holocene", was also nominated for two major awards: Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
