Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Bonanza is a small, unincorporated community located in Caldwell County, in the state of Missouri, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.

What is Bonanza?

Bonanza is a name that comes from the Spanish language. It means something like a "rich ore deposit" or a "stroke of good luck." This name was often used in places where people hoped to find valuable things, like gold or silver, or where they expected a lot of prosperity.

History of Bonanza

The community of Bonanza had a post office that opened in 1881. A post office is a place where people can send and receive mail. This was an important service for communities in the past, especially in rural areas. The Bonanza post office operated for about 22 years, closing its doors in 1903. Even though the post office is no longer there, the name Bonanza still marks this small spot on the map in Caldwell County.
