Wayne Stevens (born May 1958, died November 7, 2020) was a talented musician from New Zealand. He was famous for his stage name, Bones Hillman. Bones was the bass guitarist for the popular Australian rock band Midnight Oil. He joined the band in 1987 and played with them until he passed away in 2020.

Bones Hillman's Music Career
Early Bands and Hits
Bones Hillman started his music journey in the late 1970s. In 1977, he joined a band called the Suburban Reptiles. He played on their first song, "Megaton." He got the name "Hillman" from the type of car he drove.
Later, he was part of a band that had a huge hit song called "Counting the Beat." This song was number one in both New Zealand and Australia. The band broke up in 1983.
Joining Midnight Oil
Bones Hillman became a member of Midnight Oil in 1987. He took over as the band's bass guitarist. He played with them for many years. He was a key part of their sound until his death in 2020.
Other Music Projects
When Midnight Oil took a break, Bones went back to New Zealand. He played music for other artists, like Dave Dobbyn. He also helped record an album called Available Light.
In 2007, Bones and his family moved to Nashville, Tennessee. Nashville is a very busy place for musicians. He continued to work on many different music projects there.
Working with Other Artists
In 2009, Bones recorded albums for two artists: Anne McCue and Elizabeth Cook. He also worked on a musical version of the movie Diner. For this project, he recorded songs for the famous singer Sheryl Crow.
In 2014, Bones worked with Warne Livesey again. Livesey was a producer for Midnight Oil. They recorded songs for Bones' new music group, the Graysmiths. The next year, Bones played music and toured with Matthew Good.
Midnight Oil Reunion Tour
In 2017, Bones Hillman joined Midnight Oil for a special reunion. They went on a big tour together. Fans were very excited to see the band play live again.
Bones Hillman's Death
Bones Hillman passed away on November 7, 2020. He was 62 years old. He died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from cancer. His bandmates in Midnight Oil did not know about his health problems until just before he died.
