Boris Borisovich Yegorov (Russian: Борис Борисович Егоров) was a Soviet doctor and cosmonaut. He made history by becoming the very first physician to travel into space. He was born in Moscow, Soviet Union, on November 26, 1937, and passed away in Moscow on September 12, 1994.

Boris Yegorov: The First Doctor in Space
A Family of Doctors
Boris Yegorov came from a family deeply involved in medicine. His father was a famous heart surgeon. His mother was an eye doctor. Following in their footsteps, Boris also chose medicine as his career.
He graduated from the First Moscow Medical Institute in 1961. During his studies, he learned about the training of Yuri Gagarin, the first human in space. This sparked his interest in space medicine, which is the study of how space travel affects the human body.
Yegorov earned his advanced medical degree. He specialized in understanding problems with the sense of balance. This is very important for astronauts in space.
Journey to Space
Boris Yegorov was chosen to be part of a special team. This team flew on the Voskhod 1 mission. This space flight was very important because it was the first time a multi-person crew went into space.
As a doctor, Yegorov's role was to study how the human body reacted to space. He helped gather important information about space travel. For his achievements on this flight, he received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on October 19, 1964.
He passed away in 1994 due to a heart attack.
