His Family and Early Life

Borlase Warren was born in 1677. He was the oldest son of Arthur Warren and Anne Borlase. His mother, Anne, came from a very important family. She inherited a lot of land and money after her brother, Sir John Borlase, passed away in 1689.

When Borlase Warren's father died in 1697, Borlase took over the family's main estate. Later, in 1703, when his mother died, he also inherited the Stratton Audley estate.

Serving His Country

Borlase Warren held several important jobs during his life.

High Sheriff

He was chosen to be the High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire for the years 1703 to 1704. A High Sheriff was a very old and important role, responsible for keeping law and order in a county. They also helped with elections and collected taxes.

He later served as High Sheriff of Oxfordshire from 1707 to 1708.

Member of Parliament

Borlase Warren was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the town of Nottingham in 1713. An MP is a person elected by citizens to represent them in the country's parliament, where laws are discussed and made. He served in this role until 1715.

After a break, he was elected again as an MP for Nottingham in 1727. He continued to serve in Parliament until his death in 1747.

His Family Life

Borlase Warren married Anne, who was the daughter of Sir John Harpur, Bt. Together, they had a large family with seven sons and seven daughters.

His grandson, Admiral Sir John Borlase Warren, also became a famous person. He too served as an MP for Nottingham, following in his grandfather's footsteps.
