History of the Boston Round Bottle
The idea for the "Winchester quart" bottle first appeared in the United Kingdom. This was back in the 1800s. At that time, it could hold about 2.27 litres of liquid. There was an old system of measurements called "Winchester." This system was used for dry goods. Even today, the "Winchester bushel" is still used in the United States.
However, the Winchester quart bottle is not really related to those old "Winchester" measurement units. In the 1900s, the size of the Winchester Quart changed. It was updated to hold exactly two and a half litres. This change made it fit better with the metric system.
