Boubou Cissé (born 1974) is a politician from Mali. He served as the Prime Minister of Mali from April 2019 until August 2020. Before becoming Prime Minister, he was a minister for economy, finance, mines, and industry.

Early Life and Education

Boubou Cissé is from the Fulani tribe. He studied at universities in France. He earned a master's degree from the University of Auvergne. Later, he received a PhD in economics from Aix-Marseille University.

His Career

Cissé started his career in 2005 as an economist. He worked for the World Bank in Washington, D.C., USA. By 2008, he became a Senior Economist. He also worked for the World Bank in Nigeria and Niger.

In 2013, Boubou Cissé became the Minister of Industry and Mines in Mali. In 2014, he was named Minister of Mines. Since 2016, he served as the Minister of Economy and Finance.

In April 2019, he was chosen to be the Prime Minister of Mali. This happened after the previous Prime Minister, Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga, resigned.

On August 18, 2020, something important happened in Mali. Prime Minister Cissé and President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta were taken by soldiers during a military takeover. The next day, President Keita announced that he was stepping down. This meant Boubou Cissé was also removed from his job as Prime Minister.

In January 2021, Cissé's half-brother and five other people were arrested. They were accused of trying to overthrow the government. Boubou Cissé was also accused, but he was not arrested. His location was not known at the time.
