Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga (born 8 June 1954 – died 21 March 2022) was an important politician from Mali. He served as the Prime Minister of Mali from late 2017 to early 2019. He was also the leader of a political group called the Alliance for Solidarity in Mali. Before becoming Prime Minister, he held several other key roles in the Malian government.

Early Life and Education
Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga was born in a city called Gao on June 8, 1954. He was very interested in learning and studied journalism. He attended the Center for the Study of Information Science and Technology at Cheikh Anta Diop University.
Later, he continued his studies in France. In 1987, he earned a special diploma in diplomacy and how to manage international groups from Paris-Sud University. He also had a master's degree in international economic relations from another school in Paris. Mr. Maïga started his career as a journalist for a newspaper called L'Essor. He also worked for a magazine named Sunjata.
Soumeylou Maïga's Political Journey

Mr. Maïga was a high-ranking member of a political party called ADEMA-PASJ. However, he disagreed with the party's choice to support President Amadou Toumani Touré for re-election in 2007. Because of this disagreement, he was removed from the party.
In March 2012, there was a change in government in Mali. Mr. Maïga, along with other government officials, faced challenges during this time. He was held for a short period. To protest his situation, he and 13 other officials started a hunger strike for a few days.
After Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta became president in 2013, Mr. Maïga was appointed as the Minister of Defense. This happened on September 8, 2013. He was in charge of Mali's military and defense.
In May 2014, he was replaced as Defense Minister by Bah Ndaw. This change happened after the army faced difficulties in Kidal against Tuareg rebels. Some people thought he was responsible for the problems, while others believed he was unfairly blamed.
Later, on August 29, 2016, he was given a new important role. He became the Secretary-General of the Presidency. This position had the same rank as a minister.
Becoming Prime Minister
Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga was chosen to be the Prime Minister of Mali on December 30, 2017. As Prime Minister, he was the head of the government. He worked to lead the country and its policies.
He served as Prime Minister until April 18, 2019. He resigned from his position after public protests. These protests followed a sad event known as the Ogossagou massacre.
Later Life and Passing
Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga passed away on March 21, 2022, in Bamako, Mali. He was 67 years old.
