Early Life and Political Start
Abdoulaye Idrissa Maïga was born in a city called Gao in Mali. He became a member of a political group known as the Rally for Mali party. This party is important in Malian politics.
Roles in Government
Maïga held several different jobs in the government before becoming Prime Minister. He was the Minister for the Environment, Water and Sanitation. This role meant he helped manage Mali's natural resources and ensure clean water for people. He also served as the Minister of Territorial Administration.
Working with President Keïta
In 2013, Abdoulaye Idrissa Maïga played a key part in the presidential election. He was the campaign manager for Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta. Keïta won the election and became the President of Mali. This showed Maïga's strong connection to the president.
Minister of Defence
In September 2016, Maïga was given a very important job: Minister of Defence. This meant he was in charge of Mali's military and protecting the country. He took over this role from Tiéman Hubert Coulibaly. Maïga served as Defence Minister until April 2017.
Becoming Prime Minister
On April 8, 2017, President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta chose Abdoulaye Idrissa Maïga to be the new Prime Minister of Mali. This is a very high position in the government. A few days later, on April 11, 2017, a new government team was formed with Maïga as its leader. In this new government, Tiéna Coulibaly took over Maïga's old job as Minister of Defence.
Resignation
Abdoulaye Idrissa Maïga's time as Prime Minister was short. He unexpectedly resigned from his position on December 29, 2017. His entire government also resigned at the same time. After his resignation, Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga became the next Prime Minister of Mali.
