Early Life and Career

Maïga has a long history in public service. He has worked in different government departments. He was the Minister of Territorial Administration. This role involves managing local government and regions. He also served as the Minister for the Environment, Water and Sanitation. This job focused on protecting nature and ensuring clean water for people.

Becoming Prime Minister

In 2013, Abdoulaye Idrissa Maïga played a big part in the presidential election. He was the campaign director for Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta. Keïta won the election and became the president of Mali.

Later, in September 2016, Maïga became the Minister of Defence. He took over this role after a security challenge in the village of Boni. His job was to help keep the country safe.

On April 8, 2017, President Keïta chose Maïga to be the Prime Minister. This is a very important leadership position. A new government was formed with Maïga as its head on April 11, 2017. In this new government, Tiéna Coulibaly became the new Minister of Defence.

Resignation

Abdoulaye Idrissa Maïga's time as Prime Minister was short. He unexpectedly resigned from his position on December 29, 2017. His entire government also resigned at the same time.
