The Boyle River starts its journey in a mountain area called the Opera Range. From there, it flows south, then west, and finally curves around to the southeast before joining up with the Hope River. It's about 37 kilometers (23 miles) long.
Where is it Located?
The Boyle River is in the Canterbury region of New Zealand. A main road, State Highway 7, follows parts of the river as it heads south from a place called the Lewis Pass. The Lewis Pass is a mountain pass that's very close to where the Boyle River begins.
Mountains and Valleys
As the river flows, especially in its upper parts, it carves out a deep valley. This valley is nestled between two mountain ranges: the Opera Range and the Libretto Range. Imagine a river flowing through a natural corridor created by tall mountains on either side!
