Early Days as the YMCA
The building was finished in 1912. It was first known as the Lawrenceville YMCA. A local architect named Robert Trimble designed it. The YMCA was a place for young people. It offered many activities.
The building had a gymnasium (gym). It also had a swimming pool. There was even a bowling alley for fun. Young people could also stay in dormitories. These were like small rooms for sleeping. The YMCA helped young people learn and grow.
Becoming the Boys' Club
In 1928, the building was sold. It became the Pittsburgh Boys' Club. This club later joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. This is a national group. It helps young people build skills. It also helps them find good role models.
The Boys & Girls Club used the building for many years. They helped kids in the community. They offered programs and activities. The club stayed in this building until the year 2000. Then, a new club facility was built. It was only two blocks away.
A New Chapter for the Building
