History of Bradford
How Bradford Got Its Name
Long ago, this area had a different name: Metcalfe's Landing. It was an early name for the community.
In 1863, a post office was opened here. It was also called Metcalfe's Landing. However, the name of the post office and the community changed a few years later.
In 1866, the name was officially changed to Bradford. This new name was chosen to honor Laban J. Bradford. He was a local businessman who was important to the community. The post office continued to serve the area until it closed in 1956.
