What is an Octagon House?

An octagon house is a special type of building. It has eight sides, just like an octagon shape in geometry. This style was popular for a short time in the 1800s. People thought these homes were more efficient and let in more sunlight.

The Bradley Octagon House Story

The Bradley Octagon House was built a long time ago, in 1906. A carpenter named James Parker built it. He was the first owner and lived there with his family. The house stayed in the Parker family for many years. James Parker's granddaughter, Joyce Bradley, sold it in 1989.

Key Features of the House

This house has two floors. On top of its eight-sided roof, there is a small, round tower called a cupola. A cupola often helps let light into the house. The house also has a porch on the side that faces the street. This porch is only one story tall.

When it was first built, the house had wooden siding. Later, it was covered with special asphalt siding that looked like brick. Today, it has modern vinyl siding.

Its Heritage Status

The city of Niagara Falls thinks the Bradley Octagon House is an important building. It is listed as a heritage property. This means the city recognizes its historical value. Even though it's listed, it hasn't been officially "designated" yet. This would give it special protection.
