Brame's climbing salamander (Bolitoglossa bramei) is a special kind of salamander. It belongs to a group of salamanders called Plethodontidae. These amazing creatures live in the forests of Central America.

Discovering Brame's Climbing Salamander

This unique salamander was first officially described in 2007. It is named after a scientist named Brame.

Where Does This Salamander Live?

This special salamander can be found in two countries: Costa Rica and Panama. It mostly lives in the Cordillera de Talamanca mountain range. This range stretches across both the Pacific and Atlantic sides. You might also find it near Cerro Pando and Volcán Barú in Chiriquí Province, Panama.

What Kind of Home Does It Like?

Brame's climbing salamander loves to live in warm, wet forests. These are called subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. It has been found living high up in the mountains. Scientists have seen it between 1,900 and 2,300 meters above sea level. That's like living on top of a very tall building!

Is This Salamander Rare?

Scientists have not seen Brame's climbing salamander very often. Because of this, they don't know much about how many of them there are. It's hard to say if its population is growing or shrinking. More research is needed to understand these secretive creatures better.

How Is It Protected?

Good news! Scientists don't know of any big threats to Brame's climbing salamander right now. Its home is also protected by special areas. These include the Las Tablas protected area and the Reserva de la Biósfera de La Amistad. These protected places help keep its natural habitat safe.
