Brandon Lee Ríos (born April 29, 1986) is an American former professional boxer. He was known for his exciting, aggressive fighting style. His nickname was "Bam Bam" because of his powerful punches. Brandon Ríos held the WBA Regular lightweight title in 2011. He also fought for the WBO welterweight title in 2015.

Brandon Ríos's Boxing Journey
Starting as an Amateur Boxer
Brandon Ríos had a great start in boxing as an amateur. He won 230 fights and only lost 35. In 2004, he became the U.S. National Amateur Featherweight champion. He was also an alternate for the U.S. Olympic team. This means he was ready to step in if another boxer couldn't compete.
Turning Professional
Brandon Ríos became a professional boxer and signed with Bob Arum's company, Top Rank. On October 17, 2009, he won a fight against Manuel Pérez. The referee stopped the fight in the 7th round because Pérez couldn't continue. This is called a TKO (Technical Knockout) victory.
Later, Brandon Ríos fought Anthony Peterson in an important match. Ríos won this fight when Peterson was disqualified for hitting him below the belt too many times. Before this, Ríos was ahead on all the judges' scorecards.
Becoming a Champion
On February 26, 2011, Brandon Ríos faced Miguel Acosta for the WBA World Lightweight Championship. Ríos won the fight in the 10th round by TKO. This made him the new WBA regular Lightweight champion.
First Title Defense
Brandon's first time defending his title was against Urbano Antillón. Ríos won this fight by KO (Knockout) in the third round. This showed he was a strong champion.
Moving Up in Weight
After being a lightweight champion, Brandon Ríos moved to a heavier weight class: Light welterweight.
Exciting Fights with Mike Alvarado
Ríos had two very exciting fights with Mike Alvarado. Their first match was on October 13, 2012. Ríos was behind on points, but he came back strong and stopped Alvarado in the 7th round. This fight was so thrilling that Sports Illustrated called it the "2012 Fight of the Year."
Their second fight happened on March 30, 2013. This time, Alvarado changed his strategy. He used more movement and was harder to hit. Alvarado won the rematch by a unanimous decision from the judges.
Fighting as a Welterweight
Brandon Ríos then moved up to the Welterweight division, an even heavier weight class.
Big Fight Against Manny Pacquiao
On November 23, 2013, Ríos fought the famous boxer Manny Pacquiao in Macau. This was a very big fight for Ríos, and he earned the most money in his career for it. Pacquiao won the 12-round match easily, taking the WBO International Welterweight title.
Third Fight with Mike Alvarado
After another win, Ríos fought Mike Alvarado for a third time on January 24, 2015. This fight was in Alvarado's hometown. Ríos was very strong and punished Alvarado for three rounds. The referee stopped the fight before the fourth round began, giving Ríos the win.
Challenging for a World Title Again
On November 7, 2015, Ríos fought Timothy Bradley for the WBO Welterweight title. Ríos lost this fight in the 9th round. It was the first time in his professional career that he was stopped by an opponent. After the fight, Ríos announced he was retiring from boxing. He said his body wasn't working the same way anymore.
Coming Back to Boxing
After a break, Brandon Ríos decided to return to the ring on June 11, 2017. He won his comeback fight against Aaron Herrera by KO in the 7th round.
Later Fights
Ríos continued to fight. He faced Danny García, a former world champion, and lost in the ninth round. Later, he fought Ramón Álvarez, the brother of another famous boxer. Ríos won this action-packed fight in the ninth round. His next fight was against Humberto Soto. Soto won by a clear decision from the judges.
Brandon Ríos's Family Life
Brandon Ríos is married to Victoria López. They got married in August 2010. He has five children. His three daughters are named Laila, Mia, and Ava. He named them after famous female boxers Mia St. John and Laila Ali. His two sons are named Brandon Jr. and Marcus Antonio. Marcus Antonio is named after the Mexican World Champion Marco Antonio Barrera.
