Discovering the Branham House

The Branham House holds a special place in Georgetown's history. It is believed to be the oldest house in the entire city! Georgetown became an official city in 1790, and this house was likely built around the same time, in the 1790s. Imagine living in a house that's over 200 years old!

A Glimpse into the Past

The house is a two-story building made mostly of brick. It sits on a strong stone foundation, which has helped it last for centuries. Some parts of the house also use wood. Over the years, changes were made to the house. For example, a beautiful front porch, called a portico, was added later. This portico has a style known as Greek Revival, which was popular in the 1800s and looks a bit like ancient Greek temples.
