Brannon Woods: A Growing Kentucky Community

Brannon Woods started to develop as the nearby city of Lexington grew quickly. Lexington was expanding southwest and needed more space for homes and businesses. This led to new growth along U.S. Route 68, a major road.

How Brannon Woods Began

The first neighborhoods in Brannon Woods were built in the 1980s. These new homes appeared along Brannon Road, attracting families looking for places to live outside the busy city.

Important Places in Brannon Woods

One of the most well-known places in Brannon Woods is Southland Christian Church. This church is Lexington's largest and the second largest in all of Kentucky. It moved to a 20-acre (about 81,000 square meter) site in Brannon Woods in 1981.

In 2001, the Bellerive Shopping Center was finished. This shopping area provides stores and services for the people living in Brannon Woods and nearby areas.

Road Improvements in the Area

To help with traffic, U.S. Route 68 was made wider in 2005. This improvement stretched from Brannon Road to Man O War Boulevard in Lexington. There are also plans to make US 68 even wider, extending southward towards Wilmore.

The Blue Grass Memorial Garden Cemetery is also located within the Brannon Woods community. It serves as a peaceful resting place for many.
