It is called a census-designated place (CDP) because it's a special area defined for gathering population data. In 2020, about 1,282 people lived there. The community gets its name from the Breckinridge Job Corps Center, which is now known as the Earle C. Clements Job Corps Center.

Camp Breckinridge: A Wartime Role
This area was once home to Camp Breckinridge. During World War II, it served as a prisoner of war camp. This means it held soldiers captured by the United States Armed Forces.
Korean War and Deactivation
Later, during the Korean War, Camp Breckinridge became an important military base. It was the main headquarters for the 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. After its military use, the camp was officially closed down in 1965. Its land was then sold.
