Brian Leslie Cole (born September 8, 1942 – died August 2, 1972) was an American musician. He was a bass guitarist and singer. Brian was one of the people who started the 1960s folk rock band called The Association.

Brian Cole's Early Life
Brian Leslie Cole was born in Tacoma, Washington. His parents were Perry Anthony Cole and Violet Elanor Cole. In the early 1960s, Brian and his family lived in Portland, Oregon. He also had two sons.
Brian went to Portland State University. He left after one year. Before becoming a musician, he moved to Los Angeles. He worked as a lumberjack for a while. Later, he started working as an actor and comedian.
The Association Band
In 1966, Brian Cole helped start the folk rock band The Association. This band used to be a larger group with thirteen members called The Men.
The Association signed with Valiant Records in 1966. They released their first album, And Then... Along Comes the Association, soon after. The band became famous for their songs like "Cherish", "Along Comes Mary", "Windy", and "Never My Love".
The Association was an opening act at the Monterey Pop Festival. This was a very important music event. The group was well-known for their amazing harmonies. Brian sang the bass parts in their songs.
Brian Cole did not often sing the main vocals. One time he did was on the song "Reputation." This song was on the Association's 1967 album, Insight Out.
As a member of The Association, Brian was nominated for a Grammy Award six times. These nominations happened at the 9th and 10th Annual Grammy Awards. These events took place in 1967 and 1968.
In August 1969, a book of poems was released. It was called "Crank Your Spreaders." The seven members of The Association wrote these poems.
Brian Cole's Family and Passing
Brian Cole had three sons: Jordan, Chandler, and Brant. His son, Jordan Cole, is now a member of The Association. Jordan has played keyboards, guitar, and drums for the band since 1999. He also sings and plays the recorder. Brant Cole is a drummer for a band in Los Angeles called Briana and the Fates.
Brian Cole passed away in Los Angeles in 1972. He was 29 years old. His last album with The Association was Waterbeds in Trinidad!. This album came out four months before he passed away.
Brian used to play a special Gibson bass guitar on stage. Around 1969, he put this guitar in his attic. After he passed away, his oldest son received it. In 1997, his son Jordan had the guitar fixed. He has used it in recordings since then.
