Brian McDermott was a 10-year-old schoolboy from Belfast, Northern Ireland. He disappeared on September 2, 1973. Brian was last seen at Ormeau Park. He did not return to his home on Well Street in the Cregagh area of Belfast.
About a week after he went missing, a search was conducted. The water level of the River Lagan was lowered. During this search, a sack containing some of Brian's remains was found. His case remains unsolved.

Investigations into Brian's Disappearance
Brian's disappearance led to a long investigation. Officials looked into many possible connections. This included looking at a children's home.
Kincora Boys' Home Connection
In 1982, important government officials discussed Brian's death. They talked about a possible link to the Kincora Boys' Home. This home was part of a larger investigation at the time.
Those who discussed it included Jim Prior, who was a government minister. Also present were Michael Havers, a top legal officer, and other senior officials. They wanted to see if Brian's case was connected to issues at the home. Documents about this meeting were made public in 2013.
Questions for Brian's Brother
Brian's older brother, William, was 16 when Brian disappeared. William was questioned by police in 1976. He was questioned again in 2004.
William has always said he is innocent. He also said that a statement he made in 1976 was not true. He explained that he felt pressured to say it. William later changed his name to avoid being linked to the case. Brian's case is still unsolved today.
