Brian "Chicka" Moore (born 19 April 1944 – died 26 October 2014) was a famous Australian rugby league player and coach. He was known for his amazing skills on the field. He played for many years and even represented his state and country.
Playing Rugby League
Brian Moore played for the Newtown team in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership. This was a very important rugby league competition. He played for Newtown from 1962 to 1973. During his time, he scored 90 tries, which is a lot! A "try" is like a touchdown in American football.
He was so good that he played for the New South Wales state team. He played for them in 1963, 1965, and 1970. He also got to represent Australia, which is the highest honor. He toured Great Britain and France with the Australian team, known as the Kangaroos, in 1967 and 1968. He played in 11 games during that tour.
More About His Playing Days
In the 1970s, Brian Moore moved to the Newcastle Rugby League. He played for and also coached the Macquarie United club. This meant he was a leader on the field and helped guide the team.
While playing rugby, Brian also had another important job. He worked as a police officer for the New South Wales Police Force. This shows he was a dedicated person both in sports and in his community. In 2008, which was 100 years since rugby league started in Australia, he was honored. He was named as a "centre" in the NSW Police team of the century. This means he was one of the best police officers to also play rugby league.
Coaching Career
After his playing days, Brian Moore became a coach. He coached his old team, the Newtown club, in 1983. This was for their last season in the top competition, the 1983 Winfield Cup Premiership.
Honors and Legacy
Brian 'Chicka' Moore was a true legend of rugby league. In 2008, he was honored again by his old club. He was named in the Newtown team of the century. This means he was considered one of the best players in the club's long history. Brian Moore passed away on 26 October 2014, after a long illness.
