If you live in the area for Piney Point Elementary, you can apply to attend the Briarmeadow Charter School. This school teaches students from kindergarten through 8th grade.
The Briarmeadow Charter School was named after the community. It opened in 1997 with 125 students. Its goal was to help reduce the number of students at Piney Point and three other elementary schools.
At one point, the charter school rented space at the Post Oak YMCA. Students would use a local library and the cafeteria at T.H. Rogers School.
In 2001, the school moved into its own permanent building. This building was once a manufacturing warehouse. It was made into a 90,000 square foot (8,361 square meter) school. It has enough space for 550 students. The building cost $10 million, paid for by a special bond program.
The classrooms at Briarmeadow Charter School are grouped together. They share a common area that connects them. The school also has many great facilities:
- A cafeteria with a stage for different events.
- A fine art studio with its own entrance.
- An attached music studio designed for good sound.
- Two computer labs.
- A library.
- A multimedia room.
- Two language labs.
- A science lab.
Outside, the school has 11 acres (4.5 hectares) of space. This area includes sports fields, a nature area, and playgrounds. In June 2001, the school had 220 students. By September of that year, the number grew to 350.
Mark White Elementary School
