The Brigade "Rey Alfonso XIII" II of the Legion (BRILEG) is a special military group. It is a big team of soldiers from the Spanish Legion. This brigade has two main parts, called "tercios." These parts are based in two different cities in Spain. One is in Viator (in Almeria). The other is in Ronda (in Málaga).

How the Brigade Started

The "King Alfonso XIII" Brigade was formed on August 11, 1995. It took over the buildings of an older military group. In 1996, the brigade was officially named "King Alfonso." This new brigade was part of the Army's quick response teams. These teams were later called the Light Force Command in 2006. In 2015, the brigade changed again. It became a flexible brigade, ready for many different missions.

How the Brigade is Organized

The "King Alfonso XIII" Brigade is made up of several important units. Each unit has a special job. Most of these units are based in Viator. One important part is in Ronda.

Main Units of the Brigade

• Brigade "Rey Alfonso XIII" II of the Legion, based in Viator. This is the main headquarters.
  • The Headquarters Bandera II of the Legion is also in Viator. A "Bandera" is like a battalion, a group of soldiers.
  • The Light Armored Cavalry Group of the Legion "Reyes Católicos" II is in Ronda. This group uses special vehicles. They have Centauro tanks that destroy other tanks. They also use VEC-M1 vehicles for scouting.
  • The Tercio "Juan de Austria" No. 3 of the Legion is in Viator. A "Tercio" is a large unit, like a regiment.
    • The Protected Infantry Bandera "Valenzuela" VII/3 is part of this Tercio. They use BMR-M1 armored vehicles. These vehicles protect the soldiers inside.
    • The Protected Infantry Bandera "Colón" VIII/3 is also part of this Tercio. They also use BMR-M1 armored vehicles.
  • The Tercio "Alejandro Farnesio" No. 4 of the Legion is in Ronda.
    • The Motorized Infantry Bandera "Millán Astray" X/4 is part of this Tercio. These soldiers can move quickly using vehicles.
  • The Field Artillery Group II of the Legion is in Viator. This group uses big guns. They have L-118A1 105mm howitzers. These are cannons that can be towed.
  • The Engineer Bandera II of the Legion is in Viator. Engineers help build things or clear obstacles.
  • The Logistic Group II of the Legion is in Viator. This group makes sure the brigade has everything it needs. They handle supplies and equipment.
