British Rail Class 505 facts for kids
British Railways Class 505 were special electric trains. They were called electric multiple units, or EMUs for short. These trains started running in 1931. They were built for the Manchester, South Junction and Altrincham Railway (MSJAR).
These trains used a 1,500 volt direct current (DC) electricity system. This is how they got their power to move. Even though they were later given the name "Class 505" by British Rail, they were taken out of service before this naming system was widely used for trains. So, the name Class 505 is not very common for them.
