Brown Derby (liquor company) facts for kids
The Brown Derby is a group of stores found in and around Springfield, Missouri. It was started in 1937 by John A. Morris. The Brown Derby became famous because it was the first place where John L. Morris, John A. Morris's son, sold fishing lures and other fishing items. John L. Morris later created the well-known outdoor store, Bass Pro Shops. He began by selling fishing gear from a small 8-foot by 8-foot area inside his father's Brown Derby store. Bass Pro Shops officially became a company in 1972.
History of Brown Derby
The very first Brown Derby store opened its doors in 1937. It was founded by John A. Morris. His son, John L. Morris, would later become famous for starting the huge outdoor retail chain, Bass Pro Shops. Over the years, the Brown Derby has grown quite a bit. Today, there are 18 Brown Derby locations in and around the city of Springfield, Missouri.
