Club History

Brynäs Idrottsförening was founded in 1912. For many years, they played in different divisions of Swedish football. Their biggest success came early on when they won the Swedish Championship in 1925. This was a huge achievement for the club.

Between 1979 and 1981, Brynäs IF joined forces with another local club, Gefle IF. They played together under the name Gefle IF/Brynäs. However, this merger did not last long, and the clubs split up again in 1982. Brynäs IF FK is connected to the Gestriklands Fotbollförbund, which is a local football association.

Journey Through the Leagues

Brynäs IF has played in many different football divisions over the years. These divisions are like different levels of competition, with Tier 1 being the highest.

In their early days, the club mostly played in Tier 3. They even got promoted to Tier 2 for a couple of seasons in the 1930s.

The 1960s and 1970s were a very successful time for Brynäs IF. They climbed from Tier 4 all the way up to Tier 1. In 1973, they won their Tier 2 division and were promoted to the top league, Allsvenskan, for the 1974 season. This was their only time playing in Sweden's highest division. After one season, they were relegated back to Tier 2. They stayed in Tier 2 until 1978 before dropping to Tier 3.

In more recent times, Brynäs IF has mostly played in Tier 4, Tier 5, and Tier 6. As of the 2021 season, they are competing in Division 4 Gästrikland, which is Tier 6 in the Swedish football system. This means they are working hard to climb back up the leagues.

Fan Support

The number of fans who come to watch Brynäs IF matches has changed over the years. When the club played in higher divisions, like Tier 3 or Tier 4, they often had around 100-130 people attending their games.

In more recent years, especially when playing in Tier 6, the average attendance has been smaller, often around 50-60 fans per game. This shows that even in lower divisions, dedicated supporters still come out to cheer for their team.
