Bundanoon railway station is a historic train station in Bundanoon, New South Wales, Australia. It is located on the Main South line. The station is important because of its history and unique design. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register in 1999. This means it is a special place that needs to be protected.

Station History

Bundanoon station first opened on 6 August 1868. Back then, it was called Jordans Crossing. Later, in 1878, its name changed to Jordans Siding. Finally, in 1881, it became known as Bundanoon.

The station has a special building called a signal box. It is on Platform 2. This signal box used to control train movements. For example, it helped trains turn around and go back towards Campbelltown. This practice stopped in 2005. Now, trains usually end their journey at Moss Vale.

Bundanoon station celebrated a big birthday on 5 August 2018. It marked 150 years since it first opened!

You can also see an old toilet and shed made of corrugated iron, built around 1910. The signal box, built in 1914, has a special sloped roof. There's also a timber parcels office. These buildings are all on the platforms.

Near the station, there's a goods shed. It's a large corrugated iron building. This shed was used to store goods that arrived or left by train.

Why Bundanoon Station is Special

Bundanoon station is a great example of an early 20th-century train station. It still has parts from when it was first built. The goods shed is quite rare and unusual.

The station grew bigger over time. This was to help holidaymakers who visited the area. The long platforms show how important the station was. It needed to handle longer trains.

The station is in a key spot in Bundanoon village. It adds a lot to the town's historic look. All the old buildings together show how a train station worked around 1913.

Bundanoon railway station was officially listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. This listing helps protect its history for future generations.
