Bushdale, Texas facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Bushdale was once a small community in Milam County, Texas, United States. It was settled by people of German heritage. Today, Bushdale is known as a ghost town, which means it's a place where most people have left, and very little remains. It is located about three miles north of Rockdale.

What Was Bushdale Like?

Bushdale was never a very large town. It stayed quite small even during its busiest times. The community mostly had a few businesses and a school.

The Bushdale School

The school in Bushdale was a "one-teacher school." This means one teacher taught all the students, likely across different age groups, in a single classroom. This was common in small, rural communities many years ago. In 1949, the Bushdale school joined with the larger Rockdale school system. After this, the school building in Bushdale was no longer used.

What Remains Today?

Today, almost nothing is left of the original Bushdale community except for its cemetery. Cemeteries are often the last remaining signs of old towns, preserving the history of the people who once lived there.
