Byron Sumner's Football Journey
Byron Sumner was chosen by the Sydney Swans in the 2009 AFL Draft. He was the 54th player picked overall. Before joining the Swans, he played for the Woodville-West Torrens team in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL).
Playing in the AFL
Byron made his debut in the AFL during the first game of the 2011 AFL season. This was his only game in the AFL. At the end of that season, he was "delisted," which means he was no longer part of the Sydney Swans team.
Returning to South Australia
After leaving the AFL, Byron Sumner went back to South Australia. He continued to play for his former team, Woodville-West Torrens. Later, in 2017, he signed with the Sturt Football Club to play in the SANFL.
A Family of Footballers
Byron Sumner comes from a family with strong ties to Australian rules football. His brother, Tim Sumner, was also drafted into the AFL in 2012 by the Gold Coast Suns. Byron is also the uncle of Lewis Jetta, who was a teammate of his at the Sydney Swans.
