Her Journey to the State House
Before becoming a state representative, Clara Marcelle was elected in a special election. This election happened on October 24, 2015. She won against another Democrat, Donna Collins-Lewis. Clara Marcelle received 4,971 votes, which was about 60.6 percent of all votes.
Before joining the state House, Marcelle served on the Baton Rouge Metro-Council. This is a local government group for Baton Rouge. Another state representative, Ronnie Edwards, also served on this council. He was elected to the state House at the same time as Marcelle. Sadly, he passed away shortly after taking office in 2016.

In 2016, Clara Marcelle tried to become the mayor-president of Baton Rouge. This job leads both the city of Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish. However, she did not win this election.
