C. R. Evers & Co. facts for kids
C. R. Evers & Co. was a Danish company that made delicious sweets and treats! It was located in Copenhagen, Denmark. Today, the 'Evers' brand of candies is owned by another company called Carletti.
The Story of C. R. Evers & Co.
Starting the Company
The company C.R. Evers & Co. was started in 1867 by a man named Christian Rudolph Evers. He was born in 1821 and passed away in 1877. Before starting his candy business, Christian Evers had many different jobs. He worked as a pharmacist, a merchant, and even made candles and brewed drinks!
Christian Evers invented a special malt extract. This was a thick, sweet syrup made from grain. It came in a small tin box. People used it to make a tasty drink that was a bit like beer. In 1864, he received a special permission from the king of Denmark to be the only one allowed to make this malt extract. This is called a royal monopoly. He also got special rights, called patents, to make his malt extract in other countries like Sweden, Belgium, and France. Because getting these patents was expensive, he teamed up with other investors. This is when the company officially became C.R. Evers & Co.
New Factories and Owners
After Christian Evers passed away in 1877, his wife continued to run the company. She finished building a new factory in a part of Copenhagen called Gammelholm.
Later, in 1886, a man named Helmuth Brix bought the company. He opened another new factory in 1896. This factory was on a street that is now called Nordre Fasanvej. The company even had an article written about it in a famous Danish magazine when it turned 40 years old!
In 1924, two new owners, A. Fredsted and C. Fjeldborg, took over the company. Over the years, C.R. Evers & Co. joined with other companies. Eventually, in the 1990s, the company itself disappeared. However, the 'Evers' brand of sweets lives on! It is now owned by the company Carletti.
