Exploring Cañada de la Cruz
Cañada de la Cruz is a quiet place with interesting history. To the north of the village, you can find ancient cave art paintings. These paintings show how people lived long ago.
The area around the village has been important for a long time. In the 1420s, there were small fights here between the kingdoms of Castile and Granada. This happened when peace agreements were broken.
People and Life in the Village
Cañada de la Cruz is a small community. In the winter, about 150 people live there. But in the summer, many more people visit. The population can grow up to ten times bigger!
In 2018, some people in Cañada de la Cruz wanted to make a change. They felt that the local government of Moratalla was not helping their village enough. So, they started a plan to become independent from Moratalla.
They hoped to join a different nearby town instead. They thought about joining Caravaca or Puebla de Don Fadrique. Puebla de Don Fadrique is in a different province called Granada. This shows how local communities sometimes try to find the best way to be governed.
