Caitlan Johnston-Green was born in Belmont, New South Wales, Australia. She is of Indigenous Australian background. Caitlan started playing rugby league when she was 11 years old for a team called Windale.
Caitlan's Rugby League Journey
Early Career and Junior Teams
In 2018 and 2019, Caitlan played for the Newcastle Knights in the Tarsha Gale Cup. This is a competition for younger players. She was even the captain of her team in 2019.
On 15 February 2019, she played for the Indigenous All Stars. She started as a second-row (second-rower) in their game against the Maori All Stars.
Making a Mark in Junior Origin
On 21 June 2019, Caitlan played for the New South Wales under-18 team. This was a special game because it was the first-ever Women's under-18 Origin game. New South Wales won 24–4 against Queensland. Caitlan scored a try in this game and was named the Player of the Match.
Joining the NRLW and Representative Teams
In July 2019, Caitlan joined the Sydney Roosters NRL Women's Premiership team. This was a big step into professional rugby league.
- In Round 1 of the 2019 NRL Women's season, she made her debut for the Roosters.
- On 11 October 2019, she played for the Prime Minister's XIII. She started as a lock (lock) in their win against the Fiji Prime Minister's XIII.
- Later that month, on 25 October 2019, she was chosen as the 18th player for Australia for a Test match against New Zealand.
Facing Challenges and Returning Strong
On 22 February 2020, Caitlan played for the Indigenous All Stars again. She started as a prop (prop) in their win against the Maori All Stars.
In March 2020, she joined the Central Coast Roosters team. Unfortunately, Caitlan got a knee injury while playing for them. This injury meant she could not play in the 2020 NRL Women's season.
On 20 February 2021, she once again represented the Indigenous All Stars.
Becoming a Newcastle Knight
On 1 July 2021, Caitlan Johnston-Green became the very first player signed by the Newcastle Knights for their NRLW team. This was a historic moment for the club. In February 2022, she was also named one of the team captains.
- In Round 1 of the delayed 2021 NRL Women's season, Caitlan made her club debut for the Knights. This was against the Parramatta Eels.
Grand Final Success
In late September 2022, Caitlan was named in the Dream Team by the Rugby League Players Association. Players themselves voted for this team, which shows how much her fellow players respect her.
On 2 October 2022, Caitlan played in the Knights' NRLW Grand Final. Her team won the championship 32-12 against the Parramatta Eels.
In 2023, Caitlan played as a prop in another Grand Final. The Knights won again, this time 24-18 against the Gold Coast Titans.
Future with the Sharks
In May 2024, Caitlan Johnston-Green signed a three-year contract. She will join the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks starting in 2025.
