Discovering Calacalí
The Equator Line
Calacalí is special because it has an equator monument right in its central square. The equator is an imaginary line that circles the Earth, dividing it into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. This monument marks where the equator passes through Calacalí.
There is another, much larger equator monument nearby. It is located in a place called Ciudad Mitad del Mundo, which means "Middle of the World City." Both monuments celebrate this important geographical line.
A Key Road
Calacalí is also known as the starting point of a significant road. This road is called the Carretera Calacalí-La Independencia. It begins at the eastern end of Calacalí and stretches out from there.
