Caledonia's Ultimate Beach Event facts for kids
CUBE (Caledonia's Ultimate Beach Event) is an exciting beach ultimate competition. It takes place on the sandy shores of Balmedie, a beach just north of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom. This event brings together teams from different places to play ultimate, a fast-paced team sport, right on the sand!
What is CUBE?
CUBE is a special tournament where teams play ultimate on the beach. Ultimate is a team sport played with a flying disc (often called a Frisbee). Players score points by catching the disc in their opponent's end zone. Beach ultimate is a fun and challenging version of the game, played on sand.
The competition was started in 2000 by the University of Aberdeen Ultimate Club, known as 'Positive Mojo'. What began as a local event has now grown into an international competition. This means teams from different countries might come to play!
Who Can Play at CUBE?
CUBE is open to any team that wants to join. However, most of the teams that participate are from universities in Scotland. It's a great way for university students to compete and have fun.
CUBE's History and Location
CUBE used to be the official British Ultimate Beach Championships, organized by the Beach Ultimate Lovers Association (BULA). It has been held every year since it started, except for 2006. CUBE is also the most northerly tournament that is connected with BULA.
The tournament usually happens in late April. This is when the weather in Scotland starts to get better, making it perfect for a beach event!
