History of Camphill Queen's Park Church
How the Church Began
The church was started by people who belonged to another church called Queen's Park United Presbyterian Church. This new church was first known as Camphill United Presbyterian Church. It was built to serve as a local church for the United Presbyterian Church community.
Changes in Name and Church Groups
Over the years, the church's name changed as different church groups joined together:
- In 1900, the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland united. Because of this, the church became known as Camphill United Free Church.
- Then, in 1929, the United Free Church of Scotland joined with the Church of Scotland. At this point, the church was renamed Camphill Queen's Park Church.
A New Home for the Congregation
In 1983, there was a plan for Camphill Queen's Park Church to join with another local church, Strathbungo Queen's Park. The idea was that one of the church buildings would close, and everyone would gather in the other.
Initially, it was thought that the Camphill building would be the one to stay open. However, this plan changed in 1990. It was decided that the Strathbungo Queen's Park building would be kept instead.
Because of this decision, Camphill Queen's Park Church closed its doors in the 1990s. It was later sold to the Baptist Church. They already had another church nearby called Queen's Park Baptist Church.
