Canadian Western Agribition facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Canadian Western Agribition, often called just Agribition, is a big yearly event all about farming and ranching. It takes place at Evraz Place in Regina, Saskatchewan, usually in the last week of November. It's like a huge fair where people involved in agriculture meet, learn, and show off their animals and products.

Agribition has won awards! It was named "Event of the Year" by Saskatchewan Tourism in both 2013 and 2015. This shows how important and well-loved the event is.

History of Agribition: A Look Back

Agribition has a long and interesting history, starting over 50 years ago.

When Did Agribition Start?

The very first Agribition show happened in Regina from November 30 to December 3, 1971. Since then, it has been held every single year. It quickly became a major event for farmers and ranchers across Canada and beyond.

How Did Agribition Adapt to Challenges?

Agribition was planning a huge celebration for its 50th year in 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic caused the in-person event to be cancelled. Instead, organizers created a virtual event so people could still participate from home. This showed how adaptable the Agribition team could be!

The event returned in person in 2021, but it also kept some online parts. Fewer people attended in 2021 compared to 2019. This was partly because of health rules and fewer international visitors. However, many more people enjoyed the online content.

Sometimes, Agribition's dates are changed slightly to avoid clashing with other big events. For example, the 2020 and 2022 shows were scheduled a bit later than usual because of the 108th Grey Cup and 109th Grey Cup football games happening nearby.
