About Candi King

Her Political Journey
Becoming a Delegate in 2021
Candi King decided to run for office in December 2020. This happened after the person who held the job before her, Jennifer Carroll Foy, left to run for governor. This created a special election. A special election is held when someone leaves office before their term ends.
King first had to win the Democratic primary election. A primary election is when people from the same political party vote for who they want to represent them. After winning the primary, King ran against Heather Mitchell in the main election. This election took place on January 5, 2021. Candi King won with 51.5% of the votes.
Winning Re-election
Later in 2021, Candi King ran for re-election. She faced a challenge from Pamela Montgomery in the Democratic primary. This election became very important. Groups that support clean energy and utility companies spent a lot of money. Even with all the money spent, King won the primary election. She received about 68% of the votes.
In the general election that November, King ran for a full term. She won against Gina Ciarcia, a Republican candidate. This victory allowed her to continue serving the people of Virginia.
