Cane Hill, Missouri facts for kids
Cane Hill is a small, quiet place in Cedar County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an "unincorporated community," which means it's a small settlement that doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
History
Cane Hill has a simple but interesting history. A long time ago, in 1858, a post office was opened there. A post office is a place where people can send and receive letters and packages. This post office served the community for many years, helping people stay connected, until it closed in 1918.
The name "Cane Hill" comes from something special that grew nearby. The area was known for having a lot of "canebrake," which is a thick growth of tall, hollow plants that look a bit like bamboo. These plants were harvested, or collected, from the land around where the community was built, giving Cane Hill its unique name.
