Capioví is a small village and municipality located in the Misiones Province of north-eastern Argentina. It's a place with a rich history and unique traditions.

History of Capioví

Capioví began to take shape in 1919 when the Carlos Culmey Company bought land in the area. The very first settlers arrived the next year, in 1920. Enrique Graef and his family were among these brave pioneers.

How Capioví Got Its Name

The village was named after the beautiful Capioví Falls, which are located upstream from the settlement. These falls are a natural landmark in the region.

Early Growth and Industries

After the first settlers arrived, the village started to grow. This growth was helped by the Carlos Culmey Company, which built a sawmill in the area. Sawmills are places where logs are cut into lumber.

Later, people in Capioví began growing yerba maté. This plant is very important in Argentina. Its leaves are used to make a popular traditional drink. In 1971, a large paper mill called Papel Misionero opened. This mill uses wood pulp to make paper.
