Carey Baptist College began a long time ago, in 1924. It was first known as the New Zealand Baptist Theological College. The very first classes were held in 1926. Back then, the college mainly taught men how to become ministers for Baptist churches across New Zealand. Its first leader was a man named J.J. North.
Getting a New Name
In 1992, the college got a new name. It became Carey Baptist College. This new name honors a famous English Baptist missionary. His name was William Carey. He was a very important person in the Baptist faith.
