Carl Bryant Daniels (born August 26, 1970, in St. Louis, Missouri) is an American professional boxer. He was known by his nickname "The Squirrel" and competed in the Light Middleweight division, which is for boxers weighing up to 154 pounds. In 1995, he achieved a big goal by winning the WBA Light Middleweight title, a major championship in boxing.

Carl Daniels' Early Boxing Days

Before becoming a professional, Carl Daniels had a very successful amateur boxing career. He was a "southpaw," which means he boxed with his right hand and foot forward, using his left hand for powerful punches. In 1987, he won the junior world championships, showing he was a top young talent. He also won the Golden Gloves award in the flyweight division, which is a famous amateur boxing competition in the United States.

In 1988, Carl became the US featherweight champion. He even beat another famous boxer, Kevin Kelley, during the trials to pick boxers for the Olympics. Carl's amateur record was very impressive, with 170 wins and only 7 losses!

Becoming a Professional Boxer

Carl Daniels turned professional in 1988. His nickname was "The Squirrel." In 1992, he got a chance to fight for a big title, the WBC Light Middleweight Title, against Terry Norris. Norris won that fight by TKO (Technical Knockout), which means the referee stopped the fight because Daniels couldn't safely continue.

In 1995, Carl had another chance to win a major championship. He fought Julio César Green for the WBA Light Middleweight Title, which was empty at the time. Carl won that fight by "decision," meaning the judges scored more points for him after all the rounds. This made him a world champion!

However, in his very first defense of the title, he lost it to Julio César Vásquez. Vásquez won by TKO in the 11th round. Even though Daniels was ahead on the judges' scorecards, the knockout ended the fight. This knockout was even named "Knockout Of The Year" by Ring Magazine.

Carl tried to win the title back in 1997 against Laurent Boudouani, but he lost that fight by decision. He later fought for another major belt in 2002 against Bernard Hopkins, but he lost that fight too by TKO in the 10th round.
