Early Life and Training

Carles Trepat was born in Lleida, Spain, in 1960. He started learning to play the guitar when he was thirteen years old. His first teacher was Jordi Montagut.

In 1976, Carles Trepat had a special chance. He attended one of the last classes taught by Emilio Pujol. Emilio Pujol was a student of Francisco Tárrega, a very important classical guitarist. Carles Trepat also learned from other great teachers. These included José Tomás, Alberto Ponce, Eduardo Sainz de la Maza, and Rafael Andia.

Playing Style and Instruments

Carles Trepat was an assistant to his teacher, José Tomás. He often plays using historical guitars. These guitars were made by famous builders like Antonio Torres and Joseph Pagés. He also uses modern guitars from builders like José Luis Romanillos.

Recently, he has performed with special strings. These are made from real gut and silk. He uses them on his 1892 Antonio Torres guitar. This helps him create a sound similar to how music was played long ago.
